Little Bird Place has the pleasure to invite you to Terrarium, a solo exhibition by Alexander Lazarkov.
In “Terrarium,” Alexander Lazarkov presents a compelling visual narrative about the delicate balance between humans and nature in the context of climate crises that are irreversibly transforming the biological world. The project continues to follow and develop the artist’s visual and conceptual language, in which contemporary technologies and organic forms intertwine to express disturbing yet poetic messages.
The Little Bird Place gallery space is transformed into a miniature ecosystem model, a terrarium, in which three series of objects are presented. They capture the processes of decay in nature caused by climate change and offer us a way to reflect on our role in them.
One group of objects in the exhibition represents corals that seem to melt in front of the viewer’s eyes. Coral reefs, key to the oceans’ ecosystem, are threatened on a scale we have never seen before. Made using 3D printing and finishing techniques, the shapes shown bear the scars of a warming climate. The fans blowing across them are a reminder of nature’s desperate attempt to cope with changing conditions, which often proves insufficient.
Another object in the exhibition captures the ethereal geometry of ice crystals, a structure that, at first glance, seems eternal but is at constant risk of disappearing. The ice, which preserves millions of years of history, is melting at an alarming rate. The images in the exhibition remind us of the catastrophic consequences of this—rising sea levels, ecosystem disruption, and habitat loss.
The third element is an imprint of the skin texture of the endangered Corroboree frog, a species whose fate is inextricably linked to climate change. Lazarkov questions the invisible losses in biodiversity and the delicate ecological balance. Amphibians are among the most endangered groups of animals. Their fate is a testament to the consequences of global warming, which is destroying their habitats and disrupting their delicate life cycle.
The exhibition “Terrarium” is not just an artistic study but also a relevant ecological commentary. Lazarkov places the viewer in the position of an observer in a world that is disintegrating before our eyes – a world in which even the most diligent attempts at salvation seem doomed. The objects he has created not only have a visual impact but also provoke a deep reflection on the relationship between man and nature and our role in its preservation.
