Cornelia Hesse-Honegger (b. 1944) is a Swiss artist and scientific
illustrator born in Zurich into the artist family of Gottfried Honegger
and Warja Lavater. She completed her training as a scientific
illustrator at the Zoological Institute of the University of Zurich, where
she worked for more than 25 years. She developed her unique style,
combining art and science by drawing deformed insects affected by
radiation and heavy chemicals. After the Chernobyl accident, she
devoted her research to mutations in insects around nuclear zones
in Europe, the US, and Japan, proving the harmfulness of so-called
low radiation. She is the author of scientific publications co-authored
with researchers in the fields of biology and ecotoxicology, and
her works have been exhibited in museums and galleries around
the world, including Zurich, Oxford, Paris, Barcelona, New York,
and Tokyo. She is a recipient of the Nuclear Free Future Award and a
member of the Atomic Photographers Guild.
