Samuil Velev; 28.07.2000; Petrich, Bulgaria

Samuil Velev is an artist whose work combines traditional and contemporary elements to explore the human condition. He graduated from an art high school, specializing in painting, followed by two years of fashion studies at the National Academy of Art in Sofia before returning to painting. In his early years, he explored nature and academicism, and after his exchange at Brera Academy in Milan, he began experimenting with color and technology. For his graduation work, he started to deprive his subjects of three-dimensionality, focusing on painterly touch and conditional physical characteristics. His work centers on conveying human traits and states of mind through the use of color and form.
