Every encounter with Tekla Aleksieva’s art is exciting and reveals new horizons of her creative pursuits over the years. Undoubtedly, the covers for the Galaxy series, the illustrations for the natural history textbooks, and also her canvases, in which the theme of the city and the urban way of life have a significant place, remain emblematic. The current exhibition shows a new, almost unknown side of Tekla’s work. A series of not shown until now abstract works are united with several biblical compositions, created with the characteristic objective style of Tekla. What unites all these works is the artist’s interest in the theme of the Cosmos, the beginning of the world. Galaxies and erupting volcanoes at one point begin to take on the outlines of doors, figures, angels, faces, the silhouette of the dancing Salome appears. These biblical images become more and more objective, more and more clearly defined. The world was created and it is the turn of a constant battle between good and evil, between the righteous and the wrong, a constant test of the faith of humans. These works add a new direction to our idea of Tekla Aleksieva’s work, they reveal her art in a different light, and she reveals new worlds, new galaxies and new creations to us.
