What if you could recycle a feeling? A drawing? A childhood version of yourself?
We usually think of recycling as a practical act: reusing, repurposing, giving discarded materials a second life. But recycling can also be emotional, poetic, even spiritual: a return to something lost, forgotten, or suppressed.
RECYCLED INNOCENCE brings together a series of works that revisit and reinterpret my early creative gestures. These include digital drawings made in Microsoft Paint, collage impressions, photos of my surroundings, and newly created works inspired by those first marks. Some images are reused, colour shifted, enlarged, or brought back in new forms. Others are reimagined entirely, guided by memory and a longing for the unfiltered joy of making without judgment. The line between preservation and reinvention blurs. Like ecological cycles, past marks and memories are renewed and transformed.
For years my practice has involved large scale, site specific, and research based projects. Here I shift focus and experiment with smaller formats, lighter materials, and quicker decisions. But the questions remain. Can innocence be remade? Is it something we lose or something we are taught to forget? Is the past ever really gone, or is it always waiting to be touched again, tenderly, clumsily, urgently?
The works in RECYCLED INNOCENCE are not about nostalgia but about connecting. I am not trying to go back exactly. I am trying to be here with all the versions of myself that still flicker inside: the one who drew jellyfish and elephants, the one who was scared, the one who felt free, the one who did not yet know how to perform.
Sometimes I don’t want to make art. I just want to live.
And sometimes creating art turns out to be life itself.
And sometimes creating art turns out to be life itself.
