Kalina Mavrodieva was born in 1988 in Troyan, Bulgaria. She lives and works in Sofia. She has degrees in Textile Art and Painting from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia and has completed a specialization in Painting at the Brera Academy for Fine Arts in Milan, Italy.
The characteristic trait of her works is the minimalistic and highly conceptual approach. The underlying themes are resulting from personal experiences. Her creative expression focuses primarily on raising eternal questions which coalesces into a contemporary artistic message. She treats painting as a reductive process and expunges or obscures the original images in order to reimagine them elevate them with a new meaning.
